For the last couple weeks, I've been haunted by the existence of abridged/condensed editions of Moby Dick. Not like, ones for children, which also exist, but just for "modern readers" allegedly. A barebones "just the plot chapters", no digression chapters.

Had the tune in my head for some time, finally sat down to write the lyrics, and did it in two hours.

Chapter 54 of Moby Dick, “The Town-Ho’s Story” is my favorite because our long digression this time is about the stout heartiness of Erie lakemen and the “abundantly and picturesquely wicked” Erie Canal men and I’m like yaaaaaay those are my people :)
