Really it's quite apposite to call my family "nuclear", but mostly because each of us is paired with a numinous figure that circles us at a distance, always on the edge of resolving to a clear face - but cannot be fixed, or grasped.

I'm grateful to WEST BRANCH for publishing this one-sentence piece of lyric prose (which is one sentence in Albanian, too) by Moikom Zeqo, which I co-translated with Moikom's daughter Kleitia. It's sadly apposite today—about the contested city of Jerusalem.

Ooh. Just came across across the term “alive and sick in the 20th century” (book was published in 1998), and gosh is that an apposite, perfectly cutting rendition of the more usual term.

Especially now.
