So I'd always thought 'gin up' (as in 'gin up a controversy') had something to do with a cotton gin. But, umm, no.

It comes from what I dearly hope is an archaic practice of putting GINger UP a horse's ass to make it step more lively.

Figuratively, it came to mean to improve something artificially

Just as a note, my art is most popular on DA, so lots of my stuff is drawn with their archaic guidelines in mind.

Which is why I don't draw dicks in butts often and such.
