The convention that when a public figure dies we are all expected instantly to have a pithy opinion about them is actually a bit weird, even before you add the de-mortuis constraints.

"On a scale of 1 to 5, would you recommend Recently Deceased Famous Person to your friends or family?"

UChicago faculty have a pithy phrase for departed, not missed colleagues that applies perfectly to Lindsey Graham: the vacuum left by his absence has already replaced him.
