I think The Odyssey would have been a stronger movie if it did three things:
1) gave us some more bucolic memories of Ithaca before the Trojan War
2) had Telemachus respond with disgust to Menelaus
3) leaned into Odysseus knowingly, and with intent, sabotaging his journey home
